Contract Duration: 10 Months

The project involved the construction of a new primary school and community centre for the small village of Sutton St Nicholas. The construction involved the erection of a steel frame structure that was surrounded with traditional block work and brickwork. The roof contained acoustic panels that were then covered with traditional roofing slates for aesthetic reasons. The building was highly insulated to minimise future energy costs.
The design of the building was extremely unique with the varying roof pitches and the building incorporated large areas of glazing to maximise natural light into building. The position of the structure was specifically designed to give to maximise energy gain from natural resources. The building was fitted out with energy efficient fittings that would only function if required. The project also included rainwater harvest tanks so that the rainwater was recycled and permeable paving to eliminated surface run off.
