Bar Meadow Bungalows.
This Marches Housing Association’s first ever Project to achieved Code Level 4 in the Sustainable Home Standards and involved the construction of two extremely energy efficient bungalows.
The construction process involved a number of sustainable construction elements to maximise the performance of the dwellings. Rainwater harvesting tanks were installed to recycle the rainwater collected from the large roof areas. Photovoltaic cells were installed on the pitch section of the roof so that energy from the sun could be collected and discharged into the energy grid to provide a financial benefit to the Client.
A sedum roof was also installed so that the bungalows blended in with the local surroundings and to minimise rain water run off. The properties were run using Mitzubushee air source heat pumps which are extremely energy efficient and all external walls were well insulated. Highly efficient windows and doors were installed to minimise any heat loss. Finally, a mechanical heat ventilation system was installed to recycle and reuse stale air throughout the properties.
